Leadership, vision & strategy
Setting direction across three platforms, and turning briefs into better briefs.
About
Most briefs start with what the business wants. I start with what people feel while they're deciding, because that feeling is usually why a good product still underperforms. Numbers can tell you where someone dropped off. They can't tell you why it didn't feel worth continuing. That's the gap I work in.
The short version
I'm most useful in ambiguity: when the problem hasn't been named yet and the stakeholders don't agree on what's broken. My instinct is to slow down before I speed up.
For eight years I've been the senior design voice across three ecommerce businesses at Tata CLiQ: Luxury, Fashion and Palette. My job has been setting direction rather than just executing it, and my authority has come from judgement rather than title. Along the way I've built an AI shopping assistant and a design system built to scale across all three, and grown two designers and four interns into a team. I've also helped bring brands like Richemont's TimeVallée and Bvlgari online in India for the first time.
I studied science before design, then trained as an industrial designer. So I think in systems and evidence, and in objects, materials and rituals as much as screens. My real skill is connecting dots others don't see: psychology and interface, data and emotion, heritage and innovation. It's why I'm drawn to categories where people buy with their hearts first.
The work I want next has no benchmark to copy, where the direction has to be built before it can be designed. I'm looking for Head of Design and Design Lead roles, and I take on a small number of consulting engagements with businesses that want to grow without losing what makes them feel special.
What I'm known for
Setting direction across three platforms, and turning briefs into better briefs.
Luxury, slow commerce and AI with the right emotional register.
500+ components, a research lab, 40% faster turnaround.
Depth interviews, synthesis in the open, personas teams actually use.
Industrial design training, AR try-on, events and phygital journeys.
How I lead
Briefs arrive as solutions. Before committing a team, I make the case for the question underneath, and earn the room to answer it properly.
Sales, service, product and engineering sit inside the research, not in the audience for it. An insight people found themselves doesn't need defending later.
For the people using the product, for the team and for quality. When conditions change, I protect the thinking that matters and say plainly what can be rebuilt.
Systems, documentation, research anyone can use. If the work only functions while I'm in the room, I haven't finished it.
Two designers and four interns grown into a team, and 138 mentoring sessions across 12 countries outside work. Giving people problems worth their talent is part of the job.
Off the clock
I like knowing how things work, and I like doing things I'm not good at yet. Tap one.
The path
Setting direction across three platforms at once, and leading the team hands-on across TARA, Bvlgari and more.
Earned the mandate to redesign how India buys luxury watches. Built the design system and a research lab for the wider team.
Held a remote team together through COVID. Rebuilt checkout and payments, and led the research that launched Beauty.
The sole designer for CLiQ Luxury. When the Head of Design left, I stepped up and set the house in order.
Mapped the uncertainties of buying a home and designed for each one.
After a grounding in science, this is where I learned to think with my hands, and started the side projects that shaped my range.
Also: Tata Bluemint Leadership Programme, London Business School (2022). Certifications in Emotional Design, Data-Driven Design, Strategic Thinking and AI Prompting.
Beyond the day job
Across 12 countries on ADPList. Top 10% contributor in India, qualified for ADPList Advance, its highest mentor tier. 100% of mentees rate my communication as exceptional.
English, Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati, beginner French, and Mandarin, which I'm learning in Shanghai.
Proof that I'm comfortable being a beginner in public, and that small daily practice compounds.
